We mentioned in other posts that Linear Pipeline Projects have been the focus of discussion this past year with several of our engineering and construction clients. The conversation focuses on improving the specification requirements for this scope of work, from what is currently circulating to wording that more clearly describes what is desired. We often encounter outdated specs that request products or procedures that are either no longer available at all, or no longer in current use by professionals. Clarity in the specs makes our bidding process easier, more competitive, and – most important – delivers quality photo or video documentation on construction projects that informs & protects all parties involved. Linear projects (water and sewer pipelines, storm drainage channels, streets & roadways, electrical lines, and other large footprint sites) present a unique challenge in composing proper specification requirements, due to the size and length of the construction zone and the constant movement of the construction crew(s).

Throughout our nearly fifty years providing services to the architecture / engineering / construction [ AEC ] industries throughout the Midwest, we have made every effort to submit bids or proposals that will fully satisfy the specification requirements – as they were written. However, when the wording is outdated or unclear it becomes impossible to do so. In the end, the project team often fails to receive the valuable Pre-Construction, Progress, or Post-Construction imaging records needed to help protect all parties from disputes, to aid in proper restoration, and in the end – to save money.
Throughout those same fifty years, P-Tn has contributed to writing, rewriting, and updating specification requirements for design firms throughout the Midwest, affecting projects across the USA. In recent years, changes in technology and advances in the Visual Documentation Services P-Tn offers its clients, the need for more spec updating has come to our attention. This includes new spec wording recommendations for the more advanced services we now offer, such as our Drone AERIAL 360-degree INTERACTIVE PANORAMAS, our ProgressWEBCAM Site Monitoring Systems & Time-lapse VIDEOS, and especially our P-Tn LINKINGapp All Digital Delivery System.
As mentioned above, our first step on this path is a fresh write-up of our recommended specification wording that can be utilized for all types of LINEAR PROJECTS. We have recently been working with major local engineering firm Burns & McDonnell on this subject and have already shared our drafts with other local engineers and organizations, as well as interested parties in Texas, Oklahoma, and beyond. These documents are available at no cost via a download from our website – or right HERE. Feel free to use all or any part of the wording we offer; edit to your heart’s content. If we can be of additional assistance in answering any questions that arise, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us for further input. Our objective is to bring clarity to the specifications on all projects, delivering more competitive pricing and better-quality documentation for any photo / video scope of work that is required.
