The purpose behind the huge volume of PRE-Construction PHOTO & VIDEO documentation we complete every year for P-Tn clients throughout the Midwest is … what? Protection against unjust claims of damage. Those claims typically materialize when the work is well underway, or after final completion and restoration is done. The photo at left (and THIS overview) illustrations of the detail available (in this case, from DRONE aerials) and the value of having that information readily available when a dispute occurs. Our documentation record can be invaluable in accurately showing the site conditions that existed before the contractor’s work gets underway, thereby resolving misunderstandings before they get out of control.
P-Tn field crews typically capture photo / video documentation at ground level. This particular assignment employed the additional use of low-altitude drone aerial photography along the street improvement project for new curb, gutter, sidewalks, and pavement. Questions arose about cracks in this commercial parking area surface, as well as those around existing manholes. Was this caused by construction activities? Our staff was asked to review our pre-construction aerial photos and provide written input confirming the obvious. We did so by providing a narrative embedded into THIS aerial photograph, referencing the issues being challenged. You can clearly see that the imperfections were there at the time of the aerial documentation flight(s) along the project construction limits.
These issues come up frequently on linear engineering projects such as pipelines, street improvements, buried power lines, storm drainage work, and manhole repairs. Disputes are often resolved early-on by referencing P-Tn’s Visual Documentation records. Only on rare occasions do our photos & videos need to end up in the hands of an attorney, or before a judge – prompt and fair resolution is the goal, saving everyone from undue costs and insuring that property owners benefit from proper and complete site restoration.
This work has been our mainstay for over half a century.
