1905 ROCK ISLAND RAILROAD BRIDGE

A TRANSFORMATION is underway!  The Rock Island Bridge is going to change from an old, rusted, steel truss railroad bridge into an event space with restaurants, bars, a coffee shop, and more!  This 1905 bridge over the Kansas River joins Kansas & Missouri, just west of the HyVee Arena in the downtown West Bottoms area.

P-Tn is pleased to be involved in the early stages of the project with drone flights for aerial mapping and reference documentation, plus ground-level video documentation of the site and bridge.  We will also be deploying our ProgressWEBCAM Site-Monitoring Systems on site with the intention of creating a Time-Lapse video of the renovation process that will prepare the bridge for construction of the expanded new structures.   One of our favorite, and oldest, clients .. L.G. Barcus & Sons of Kansas City, Kansas will he handling this initial phase.  Here’s a group portrait of their initial crew, as they began prepping for access to the bridge structure before construction work ramped up.  Now take an AERIAL TOUR of the bridge before the transition begins!

“America’s First Destination Landmark Bridge”

This project is one-of-a-kind for Kansas City, and for the Nation!  Conceived by Michael Zeller with Flying Truss LLC, Multistudio is the design firm, with L.G. Barcus & Sons Construction as General Contractor.

The uniqueness of this project, as well as its location in the West Bottoms, will bring plenty of attention to this bridge throughout 2023, and into next year.  We will be providing visual updates from time to time, so keep your eyes on our e-NEWS plus+ BLOG for more posts as this transformation moves forward.
